How an RO plant works

From raw water to clean water

Every RO plant we build goes through these seven stages, each sized for your water and demand.

  1. Stage 01

    Raw-Water Assessment

We test the water and check how much is available.

  2. Stage 02

    Pretreatment

Filters remove sand, mud and other particles.

  3. Stage 03

    Feed / High-Pressure Pumping

Pumps raise the water to the pressure the membranes need.

  4. Stage 04

    RO Membrane System

Membranes remove salts, heavy metals and other impurities.

  5. Stage 05

    Post-Treatment

Minerals are added back, pH is corrected and the water is disinfected.

  6. Stage 06

    Storage / Distribution

Clean water is stored safely and sent where it is needed.

  7. Stage 07

    Commissioning & Support

We start the plant, test it and keep supporting you.

How an RO plant works, step by step

First we test the raw water to see what it contains and how much is available. Pretreatment then removes sand, mud and other particles that would otherwise block the membranes very quickly.

Next, the high-pressure pump pushes the water through the RO membranes, which hold back dissolved salts and other impurities. After that comes post-treatment: adding back some minerals, correcting the pH and disinfecting, because water straight out of an RO membrane is usually too pure to use as it is. Finally the water is stored and distributed, and we commission the plant and test it before handing it over.

Repair, upgrade or replace?

A plant that has slowed down doesn't always need replacing. New membranes, a better pump, more capacity or a few process changes can often bring it back to full output for much less money and with far less downtime than a new plant. The skill is in knowing which parts are worth keeping.

Dirty or scaled membranes are the most common reason output drops. A proper membrane cleaning (CIP), using the right chemical for the type of dirt, followed by a performance check, often recovers most of the lost output without buying new membranes.

When you don't need a full RO plant

Some sites don't need full desalination. Filtration, softening, chemical dosing or demineralization on their own can solve the problem if the water only needs conditioning. To know which one you need, the raw water still has to be tested first. There is no way around that step.

Getting the pump right

The pump is the part most often chosen wrongly, because one that looks fine on paper may not suit the pressure and flow your membranes need. We select high-pressure, feed and transfer pumps for the plant as a whole. An oversized pump wastes power every day it runs. An undersized one limits the output of the entire plant.

Let's build the right water solution.
